Mattress got wetBy Kay from Anahuac, Texas on October 21, 2005 Category: Mattress Care and Cleaning We recently went thru Hurricane Rita and had some roof damage. There was a leak in the ceiling of the master bedroom. Once we were able to return to our home we realized that our mattress set had gotten wet. Not sure how much water got on it, but the marks go about 4-6 inches around the outer edges of the mattress and box springs. We took them outside and no water dripped, but they were very damp, where the two were together. We let them dry all day in the sun and brought them back in. The only smell is a MUSTY smell, as if closed in for a long period of time. The mattress is still in very good shape even after 13 years and we love it. My question is: Is there any way of cleaning it, to make it smell fresh and to get the water stains off? It is a - Sealy Posturpedic Destination Ambience (Double Pillowtop - Queen) Hope you can help me - insurance will pay for a new one, but if I can save this one, I would like to use it in the guest room instead of throwing it out. Thanks - Kay |
