Removing brown stains in marble

We had marble sills installed in all our home windows, replacing cheap formica.
A couple days, or maybe weeks, afterward, we noticed some sills were turning brownish in spots.
We called the installer, and he thinks it is due to bleeding through of the cedar shims underneath.
Some shims may have alread been there, but he also installed some shims.
Is there any product, or home grown potion, that can be used to get rid of the stains?
