Rusty smears of water on fabrics when ironing.

I empty my fairly new iron after using but during the next round of ironing I still get large blobs and smears of rusty water all over everything. I refill and try to spray steeam the iron till the contents run clear but no luck. Should I just buy a new iron? Also, Why does the iron spit drops of water all over the place? I let it warm up well enough.
