How do I remove excess deck stain?

I applied a coat of deck stain yesterday (10-8-2006) and may have applied too much to one particular corner, as it is drying with a much darker color. It also has a heavy sticky residue. What are my options here? Can I scrub the excess layer away? If so, with what material? Or do I have to re-do the whole deck?
