how to remove paint from old wooden bar

i have an antique wooden bar that was painted at one time some time ago. It should never have been painted The bar has been just sitting tucked away in the basement gathering dust and I want to restore it to it's natural beauty by removing the paint and refinishing it please help I'am afraid of damaging the old wooden antoque
