how do I attach a deck roof to a two story vinyl sided house

I would like to install a roof over a deck directly off the back of my house. The house is a two story, vinyl sided (12 years old). My intent is to remove the siding and attach a 2" x 8" treated header directly to the house. I have no experience working with vinyl siding so I am looking for advice on how to accomplish. The vinyl siding is in 8" widths, so I will have to remove one horizontal panel and cut and trim into one below it. I intend to use a metal roofing system. Thanks for any help.
