Care Pillows should be aired regularly. The removable "cover" should be washed frequently to remove soil before it migrates to the ticking and filling.
The exterior cover is called "ticking." It is finely woven fabric, usually cotton fiber, woven in satin weave. Traditional printed patterns are used. Most will show through a pillow case fabric.
It is recommended that all pillows be covered with a 'pillow cover' of white cotton fabric. Instead of a purchased zipper pillow cover, a white pillow case can be used, loosely basted at the open end. Protective covers of plastic can be purchased if a person is prone to perspire; however, they may feel "warmer" to the head, and may make noise during movement. Vinyl covers may also be used on natural down or feather pillows by persons who are allergic to them.
