Slate inserts are used in table tops or as separate trivets or hot pads. Slate inserts are usually sealed or finished like the wood table, and may be cleaned with the same kind of cleaning wax used on the wood. Never wax hot pads of slate as the wax would melt from a hot dish; these may be washed with a mild detergent solution when soiled, and rinsed and wiped dry.
