Are there floors that don't require adhesives?

I thought my life would be easier when I learned of floors that you didn’t need to use nails on, only adhesives. Problem is, I got the adhesive not only on myself, but on almost everywhere in the house where I didn’t want it to get on. Are there alternatives?
