melted candle on top of a wood stove

i had a fire in my wood stove and accidentily left a wax candle on top of stove. the candle melted into a pool of liquid wax. i cleaned it up, but now when i start other fires, it creates a fog that goes through my house.
any ideas how long i will have to burn my wood stove for the fog to stop? or any other cleaning ideas?

Did you get an answer? I have done the same thing, and everytime i light the fire to burn off the wax, a heavy smoke fills the house and sets off fire alarms - can someone offer some help???
